Steve Jobs, the visionary in the black turtleneck who co-founded Apple in a Silicon Valley garage, built it into the world's leading tech company and led a mobile-computing revolution with wildly popular devices such as the iPhone, died Wednesday. He was 56.
Apple announced his death without giving a specific cause. He had been battling pancreatic cancer.
"Steve's brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve."
Steve had battled cancer in 2004 and underwent a liver transplant in 2009 after taking a leave of absence for unspecified health problems. He took another leave of absence in January — his third since his health problems began — before resigning as CEO six weeks ago. Steve became Apple's chairman and handed the CEO job over to his hand-picked successor, Tim Cook.
By the time he turned the reins of the company over to Cook, Steve had become one of the business world’s greatest comeback kids.
The company he founded, was fired from and then returned to had gone from also-ran to technology industry leader. Under Steve’ intensely detail-oriented leadership, Apple created several iconic products, including the iPod, iPhone and iPad, that have changed the face of consumer technology forever.

Just Wednesday the company released a new version of the iPhone, the first such major product announcement in years that didn't involve Jobs, iPhone4S.
Jobs' family issued a statement: "Steve died peacefully today surrounded by his family. ... We are grateful for the support and kindness of those who share our feelings for Steve. We know many of you will mourn with us, and we ask that you respect our privacy during our time of grief."

Apple fans and would-be customers seemed to agree that while Steve Jobs' charisma and innovative genius is one-of-a-kind, the company he built will survive without him.
On Wednesday night, after he resigned as CEO of the iconic gadget maker, Jobs was not the topic of conversation among shoppers, browsers or the blue-shirted employees at the Apple store on Manhattan's swanky Fifth Avenue across from Central Park.
On the display computers set up around the store, people scrolled through Facebook photos, looked up bank account balances and watched videos on YouTube. They weren't, from the looks of it, reading news stories about Jobs.
"Apple's created an identity for themselves that is well above and beyond Steve Jobs. People don't think of Steve Jobs when they think of Apple, they think of a sexy brand," said Jared Karlow, 23, who works in information technology for the financial services industry. "You could say the same thing about Microsoft. They have outlived Bill Gates."
Jobs resigned as CEO on Wednesday, saying he could no longer handle the job and would continue to play a leadership role as chairman of the board. He has been on medical leave since January. Apple's chief operating officer, Tim Cook, who has been filling in for Jobs, was named as CEO.
Karlow, 23, was shopping with his girlfriend, Maegan Tabbey, 21, on the evening that Jobs resigned. They didn't know about the news until told by a reporter. But both believe the company will be fine and that Jobs' role likely became less integral as the company grew.
"There are thousands of employees who do the work that brought Apple to where it is," Karlow said. "It's not just one man."
Added Tabbey: "My sister just bought a Mac laptop and I promise you she doesn't know who Steve Jobs is."
Apple may be known for its rabid fan base, but the company's creative genius lies in being able to attract a mass-market audience. These are the folks who may only vaguely know that Steve Jobs, the guy in the black mock turtlenecks, is the force behind the iPhone in their pocket or the iPad in their hands.
Walking out of an Apple store in Phoenix, Zanzucchi, 49, said he'd never heard of Jobs, and he didn't believe the CEO's departure would mean less innovation for the company.
"I don't know if he's the person who thought of it all," he said. "I'm sure he wasn't. I'm sure there's a host of people below him."
Unless prompted by a reporter, customers didn't seem to be discussing Jobs' departure in the Fifth Avenue Apple store. Instead, they were asking employees about the products and how much each cost. Business flowed as usual.
"He has so much charisma, I'm curious if they can keep it up because there is kind of this cult around him," said Selim Sevinc, 25, a medical student from Germany. But Sevinc said it was Apple's products — not Jobs — that influenced him to get an iPhone and switch from PCs to Macs.
"When Dell catches up, I would switch to Dell," he said. "Maybe."
In San Francisco, software engineer P.K. Kalyanraman said he was worried his Apple stock would decline in value.
"I think Steve Jobs has been a shadow figure for the last 1 ½ to 2 years now with his health problems, so I still feel like the company will function perfectly fine without Steve Jobs for at least a few more years," he said.
But, he added, "how they progress into new technology and how they keep up with the market is what we've got to look for in the new person who comes in over there."
The biggest Apple fans certainly felt Jobs' departure.
Seanmichael Rodgers, 35, was saddened. He made his way to the Fifth Avenue store after work, after reading the news on his iPad 2 while on a break.
"I just want to be close to him," he said with a laugh. He sat on the plaza in front of the store and played Words With Friends, a Scrabble-like game, on the Apple tablet computer.
When asked why he didn't invite anyone to come with him, he said, "I didn't really think it was a moment to share."
Besides being an Apple fan, he also worked at the company's Fifth Avenue store four years ago, for six months. He now designs closets in people's apartments. Rodgers said Jobs "envisioned how we can use devices to enhance our lives."

As technology improves, a Single Lens Reflex (SLR) camera nowadays is cheaper to get especially when we are talking about Digital SLR (DSLR). DSLR is a camera with a digital sensor that records images digitally, replacing film used in traditional SLR. DSLR are generally bigger, heavier and more expensive as compared to compact or "point and shoot" camera, widely available in the market now. But following are a few reasons and comparisons which I found it on the web!
The inner part of DSLR
When you hold on to a DSLR, no doubt it would be heavier than compact cameras. But you would definitely feel that the grip, feel and hold are much better. Try experiment the difference between shooting using a compact camera and a DSLR. You would immediately feel that shooting with a DSLR would provide a firmer and more comfortable grip. Also, important photography functions like White Balance, ISO, Aperture, Metering Modes, etc are easily assessable in a DSLR. That is provided if a compact camera have these functions too. Do this simple experiment yourself (between a DSLR and compact camera) and you will totally understand and agree with me.
Unlike any compact camera, you are able to detach and change the lens from the body of a SLR to give a variance field of view. Thus unlike a compact camera, you would not be limited by the field of view available by the brand and model. Although the lenses of the SLR are expensive but as technology progress, these lenses (for DSLR) are less expensive to get nowadays. There are a wide range of lenses available, example fisheyes, wide angle, telephoto, macro, etc. You could choose to get the necessary lens suitable to the area of photography you like.
One big advantage a DSLR had over compact camera is the response time. The start-up time (from Off to On state) of the DSLR is usually a fraction of a second. This would ensure that you would not miss a shot when needed, which I believe you would encounter frequently when using a compact camera. A DSLR allows you to shoot a continuous burst of pictures at high speed which is an excellent feature for fast moving subjects. The Auto-Focus of a DSLR is definitely much faster, more accurate and thus controllable.

The image quality from a DSLR is much better as compared to a compact camera. Also, for the same reason, a compact camera would produce are more noisy picture as compared to a DSLR of the same ISO. This is due to the smaller sensor size of the compact camera as compared to a DSLR, even if they are of the same pixel resolution. The surface area of a DSLR sensor is much bigger compared to compact camera and therefore they have better light gathering ability. With this, a stronger signal is achieved and thus garners better Signal to Noise Ratio. On top of that, a DSLR is capable of recording images in an uncompressed RAW format which allows you to process the image yourself later in custom software which could enhance the results of your picture.

Above are some of the major reasons and differences on why you should get a DSLR if you are keen in photography. Many beginners worried that they would not know how to use a DSLR due to their complex features and etc. Fear not as new entry level DSLR is very user-friendly and easy to use. Here come the new LG crystal phone,GD900 *LOVE* The GD900,is billed as the world’s first phone with a transparent design handset. Not everything on the slider handset is transparent (the mechanical components are the old-fashioned opaque variety) but the rear slider is translucent and the keypad gives off a glittering show. LG promises a Bluetooth headset is in the works which will match the clear design of the phone itself.
In the meantime, the GD900 has a futuristic look that is bound to win some devotees early on. Often it is the simple but beautiful item that wins out in the end. Expect the LG GD900 clear handset phone to show up in stores sometime in the third quarter of 2009.
I keep asking myself what's the point of a touch screen phone? Have they really done anything for their users?
Here's the answer!
First, let's take a look at touch screen scenarios that already work well. We all agree that the touch screen in general have proved to be useful in several mundane scenarios, such as when checking in on an airport or when picking up movie tickets. Now, the main reason why these machines for instance save us time is because they are programmed to do one thing and therefore have been easy to create a straightforward user interface for.
The next step on the ladder for such public touch screen machines is multi-function machines such as Microsoft's Surface. When integrated in a restaurant table, such a machine can let you order food and beverage from within the menu or check out wine recommendations on the Internet. Of course, if you don't get what you ordered, you would have to blame Microsoft, not the restaurant staff.
Taking it even further, the Internet framework required for your local grocery store to effectively send and receive information between their system and your refrigerator is now in place. As soon as a commercial system that grocery stores can "plug in" to their existing IT infrastructure has been developed, the only thing you need is a refrigerator with a touch screen machine integrated to save you time.
And that's where things start getting fuzzy when it comes to touch screens. The real time-savers in most real life scenarios can be tracked to improved information flows. The touch screens and interfaces are just the tip of the iceberg that lets you view and manage loads of information.
That's also a good description of especially all-touch phones like the Apple iPhone right now. Apple has improved the information flow to smartphones by connecting it to their iTunes service. In addition, they've integrated a mobile version of their Safari browser that takes advantage of core technology found in the full version Safari browser. On top of that, they've created a touchscreen interface that lets you view and manage this information flow. Text input, however, has obviously not been optimized in many ways, yet.
Until now, full version web browsers have always been a couple steps ahead of mobile browsers. The gap is getting narrower though, as the organizations behind the major web browsers are seeing new opportunities in the mobile world with the roll-out of faster and more stable 3G networks and more powerful mobile devices. Microsoft's next version of the Internet Explorer Mobile and Opera's upcoming Opera Mobile 9.5 are among the new mobile browsers that will offer more PC-like browser capabilities in combination with improved touch interaction to improve the overall experience. Nokia, and likely Apple, is currently working on the same things. The same applies for the organization behind Firefox, which is currently developing a mobile version of Firefox called Minimo (from "Mini Mozilla").
When speaking of Microsoft, it's worth mentioning that most of their productivity smartphones come with a touchscreen and a QWERTY thumbboard, while their messaging smartphones come with non-touch screens and QWERTY thumbboards. One of the reasons they chose to include a touch screen, was to improve the use of for instance Microsoft Office Mobile without having to connect a mouse to your smartphone. Many third-party developers offering productivity and scheduling applications have also taken advantage of the touch screen.
In the future, we'll see more multimedia and Internet features taking advantage of touch screen capabilities, and that's when its purpose will become more obvious to the masses. Luckily, a lot of goodies are just around the corner from many camps. More importantly, improvements in the frameworks that'll make it all more capable, user-friendly and time-saving are also on its way. ;
Sony Ericsson Idou Smartphone Appears With Whopping 12 Megapixel Camera
Set to debut in Europe this October, the Sony Ericsson Idou is a full-touchscreen smartphone with a 3.5-inch display and GPS.
The first model in a new series of entertainment phones from Sony Ericsson, the Idou is being marketed as a device capable of providing "unlimited entertainment." On the bill are music, video, photo, games, social network functionality.
Aside from the sweet camera offering, however, most of the other features seem pretty run of the mill. Sony Ericsson will have to pull up their britches and get working, because it all sounds like stuff we've seen before. No word yet on a stateside appearance.
